*Empower Summer Online Webinars* Are you autistic? Are you a parent of an autistic child? Are you a teacher? Are you a SENCO? Are you a Learning Support Assistant? Are you a Social Worker? Are you a health professional? Do you work with children on the spectrum? If so, then these webinars are for you. These webinars are planned due to popular demand. These webinars can improve your knowledge of various aspects relating to Autism and you can receive a certificate of attendance for each webinar. The Empower Project are hosting a series of webinars from Monday 26th July to Friday 30th July from 10am to 12noon each day. Monday 26th July 10am to 12 noon PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) is widely understood to be a profile on the autism spectrum, involving the avoidance of everyday demands and the use of ‘social’ strategies as part of this avoidance. PDA individuals share autistic characteristics and have many of the ‘key features of a PDA profile. Rebecca McCullough will look into the characteristics of PDA, the challenges of living with PDA and supporting someone with PDA, potential triggers for individuals with PDA, and learn how to support individuals with PDA through effective strategies. Tuesday 27th July 10am to 12noon Girls & Autism 'During this webinar, Rebecca will discuss why is autism not as recognised in girls as it is in boys, how it presents itself differently and how you can support girls on the autistic spectrum.' Wednesday 28th July 10am to 12 noon Social Stories & Visuals During the first part of this webinar, Rebecca will cover how to write social stories, when and how to use them, and why they are so important. Social stories are essential to reduce anxiety and provide clear structure and expectations across a wide variety of scenarios. During the second part of this webinar, Rebecca will explain why using visuals are so important, how and when to use them, and provide strategies and different options when using visuals. Thursday 29th July 10am to 12noon Helping your child with anxiety Rebecca will explore and discuss how to support your child with anxiety. Any child can suffer from anxiety from having various conditions on the spectrum. Rebecca is extremely passionate about this subject as she has written her Master’s Thesis on Anxiety and behavior. Friday 30th July 10am to 12 noon An overview of the CACHE Level 2 Certificate – Understanding Autism which will start in September 2021. We are currently taking expressions of interest for this course. CACHE Level 2 Certificate – Understanding Autism qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop an understanding of autism and how to support individuals with autism. This is open to parents/carers, schools/professionals, etc. This course includes 6 units which are as follows: • Unit 01 Introduction to autism • Unit 02 Using a person-centered approach to support individuals with Autism • Unit 03 Communication and social interaction in individuals with autism • Unit 04 Sensory processing, perception, and cognition in individuals with Autism • Unit 05 Supporting positive behavior in individuals with Autism • Unit 06 Supporting individuals with autism to live healthy and fulfilled lives Rebecca will give a brief overview of each unit and explain more about the course and the qualification. The Empower has 50 people on the course, some of who have completed all 6 units and are awaiting their accreditation certificate. Monday 23rd August 10.00am to 12noon ADHD in the classroom It is estimated that 1 in 30 children have ADHD, meaning if you are working in a school it is most likely you have at least one child in your class with ADHD. In this 2 hour webinar, Rebecca McCullough will look into what is ADHD, what causes ADHD, myths, and most important strategies to help support individuals who have ADHD. Tuesday 24th August 10am to 12noon Challenging behaviour in the classroom Challenging behaviour is a form of communication, as adults, our job is to investigate what they are trying to communicate. During this webinar, Rebecca McCullough will look into why we see challenging behaviours and how to support behaviour in a classroom environment.
