Rang 6 Writing Project - Lí Bán
Rang 6 will have the opportunity to participate in a writing project for the Irish medium primary schools in the Mid Ulster area. The project is funded by Foras na Gaeilge (via the Irish Writers' Centre) and the partnership of Mid Ulster Council for a really unique project that revives and ancient story about the area.
Children's author, Myra Zeph, has rewritten a story (from the 12th century Book of the Dun Cow) which is an origin story of Lough Neagh. It features a great character in Lí Bán - a courageous and feisty young girl. The story is quite remarkable - it has giant horses and mermaids, fairy gods and magic. It is an absolute gem of a story and Myra is really excited to be introducing our pupils to it. It ties in with the local placenames giving it a very local flavour.
Myra will run a workshop in school on Monday 4th November 2019 in which she will tell Rang 6 the story and guide them to write their own creative responses. Each participating school will be working on a different part of the story.
Then, on the 4th December 2019, all 6 participating schools will come together to present their work, and the entire story, in the Helicon Theatre in the Seamus Heaney HomePlace Centre in Bellaghy.
